Innovents Soul band 1 (Powered Soul)

Innovents Soul Band 1 is a red hot soul band who never fail to set an event on fire with their locked in rhythm, spectacular musicianship and carefully chosen set of well known classics.

Led by the charismatic presence of their front man Donovan– who will scoop your audience up in the palm of his hand, charm them with his wit, and melt them with his voice – the band will re-create the glory days of soul with touches of the ‘Commitments’ and the ‘Blues Brothers’

Innovents Soul Band 1 (Powered Soul) is an amazing 7 to 12 piece soul/funk band. Famous on the London circuit and often heard in the likes of the Dover Street Wine Bar, and other cool London venues.

A dynamic collaboration of talented musicians, combining the evolutionary beats of sixties soul music, 70s funk and bringing it bang up to date for the 21st century!

Experience Motown treasures from artists such as Stevie Wonder, the funky explosive intensity of James Brown, and the superb melodic classics from Stax label artists such as Wilson Picket, Sam and Dave and the legendary Otis Redding.

If you liked the Blues Brothers, if you liked the Commitments you’ll love this band. An impressive CV includes working in music venues, clubs, weddings, parties, festivals, conferences, corporate entertainment and all kind of events both in the UK and abroad.

Frequently asked questions

Are you any good?

ER! Next question!

What does the band provide?

We provide the band for the evening, 4000 Watt PA system, backline, travel, lights, and sound engineer. We play roughly two 55 minute of music.

Do you provide music between sets?

Yes we play a selection of music from a lap top or Ipod between sets. We play most of the tasteful 70s disco classics. If you would like to provide your own play list or ipod that is easily accommodated.

Do I need a DJ?

Experience has shown that unless you are going to go on until very late a DJ isn’t always needed.

What kind of music do you play?

We play classic Soul/ Motown and Funk with a modern twist. Our playlist is viewable on another page on this site but we have a well honed set that keeps everyone dancing all night. We are pretty full on and interact with the audience. Our music is unique as it appeals to all age groups and so will make an all inclusive atmosphere for any party.

What size stage do you need?

Our preferred size in which we can perform comfortably is 5x4 metres. However we are slim have previously squeezed into the smallest spaces. As long as there is room for the drum kit and the rest of the band to stand around most venue sizes can be accommodated. In a marquee the drummers’ area must be flat. If the marquee are to provide a stage it is worth just checking that the stage isn’t too high and therefore the band member’s heads disappear into the drapes. Yes this has happened more than once!

What are your electricity requirements?

We need two double sockets on either side of the stage/band area. The more sockets the better. At least 2 x 13amps fully rated.

What about lighting?

We come with our own lighting. If you are hiring a marquee it maybe worth asking whether they could supply some colour washes for the stage area. Firstly as space might be at a premium. Secondly as the lighting that they provide would be well away from the drapes of the marquee liner and not cause a fire hazarded safer as our lights go above our speakers and putting them there if the ceiling is low cases a fire risk

Set times?

We normally play 9.30 10.30 than 11-12. These times seem to work since it gives everybody a chance to relax and have a drink etc the band being the climax of the evening. I have a lap top for the music in between/ early on. The later you leave the band the better the evening goes. In our experience the band doesn’t work if we come on right after the wedding breakfast or meal has finished. This is a sure way to empty the venue. Most people want to stretch their legs, congratulate the bride and groom and or get to the loo/bar!

Where is the band based and where do you travel to?

We are a London based band and we have travelled all over the world!

Noise Limiters?

It may be worth checking whether the venue has a noise limiter device. These devices are not live music friendly and are designed for noisy DJs with throbbing bass. We don’t usually have a problem with them unless the microphone is set up near the band. When I say near the band, 1 foot behind the drum kit isn’t that helpful.

Don’t book us if you have hired Synford paddocks or Bath Assembly rooms

Exactly how many people are in the band and can they be hired with a smaller line up?

The band is usually an eight piece band. Seven minimum. If you take away the brass section, which would be the first to go in a diminished line up, it wouldn’t have the same impact. We also go up in no. to 12 piece including female vocals and extra brass.
